Comprehensive medical care reform can’t be postponed . Rapidly mounting medical insurance costs are destroying government, business, family, and individual finances . Employer-sponsored health insurance premiums have risen in the last ten years, a ratethree times quicker than composite pay raises . This forces families to sit around the breakfast table and make impossible choices between paying for food or paying health premiums . Given all that we spend on medical care , Americans should not be presented with that choice . The United States spent just about $2.1 trillion on health care in 2008 , or $6,923 per individual - about twice the average of other developed nations . Will we be able to change our health care system before the cost becomes impossible? But success it will not be.
