The debate never stops about whether poker is a game of skill or just gambling on luck. Anyone who has played poker for awhile knows it is both, and that skill can be improved and the luck aspect minimized. How do you take the gamble out of poker online and bring more skill to the casino online? Basically, the most important decisions you make will most likely be pre- and then post-flop. When you are dealt your pocket cards, you must determine what the probability of winning actually is. Pocket pairs complete to a set one in eight times. Aces get cracked 20 percent of the time. If you have a strong starter or made hand pre-flop, you want to narrow the field right away with a raise - this takes out some of the luck factor because you will have fewer opponents. Once the flop comes out, you must ascertain whether you have the best made hand or best potential draw. If you believe you are holding the best made hand possible even to the river, you can slow play to keep another player betting into the pot. However, if you are holding a hand that could be beat, two pairs with a boards shaping up to a straight, then raise to try and prevent a lucky suck-out. If you’re on a draw, use pot odds to figure out whether to keep betting or to fold. Let the math be your guide. Follow these guidelines, and you will bring more skill and rely less on luck to win at poker.
